Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

Nola Date Night: Maypop

Nola Date Night: Maypop

Happy Humpday! I have decided that I am going to be better at documenting my food adventures outside of the house. I wanted to start with our most recent outing: Maypop.

On halloween night Petey & I went to see Ed Sheeran in New Orleans.

We drove in after work, checked into the Hyatt, and walked over to Maypop for dinner before heading to the concert.

The restaurant was a quick 5 minute walk from the Hyatt and 10 minute walk to the Superdome. The restaurant has a very open feel because it is lined with floor to ceiling windows. I thought the plant wall was a nice touch to the decor. I would recommend making a reservation!

The concert began at 7 so I made our reservation for 5:30- catching the last 30 minutes of Happy Hour- WIN!

To start I got a glass of the red wine on the HH list and Petey ordered a beer. I made sure to get my second glass of wine before HH was over at 6!

Steam Buns & Wings

Steam Buns & Wings

To start we ordered 2 things from the HH menu:

  1. Vindaloo Curry Hot Wings ($7) with coconut ranch ($1)- These were delicious, but very messy. I probably shouldn’t have ordered them all dressed up for the concert. They were also on the spicy side, but the coconut ranch was the perfect compliment.

  2. Spicy Shrimp & Soy Mash Aioli Steam Buns ($3)- I liked these, but they weren’t may favorite. They also had pickles on them which I love and Petey hates :I.

For our main course I wanted to split a dish, but Petey convinced me that we should each order pasta. I said yes, what a hard decision haha!

  1. Goat Cheese Agnolotti with Braised Capretto and Plum Salsa Fresca ($19)- Agnolotti are small squares of pasta and in this case stuffed with goat cheese, very similar to ravioli. Capretto is goat meat incase you were wondering and the plum salsa fresca definitely had apples in it. If your bite contained the pasta + goat + salsa it was magical!

  2. Hand Pulled Noodles Tossed with Blue Crab & Pork Sausage ($20)- The sausage in this dish is made into a delicious meaty sauce reminding me of a spaghetti sauce that you would have at your mommas house. It is topped with spicy maypop sauce. This was light and fresh and not really spicy. These flavors combined with fresh herbs (think cilantro & chives) made for a cool yet hearty bite! This was Petey’s favorite dish.

We passed on dessert, because let’s be real this meal was not compliant with the #FeelGoodFallChallenge and we were completely stuffed.

I would definitely recommend Maypop for a fun date night or girls night out in New Orleans. I hope to return soon! I think it was key to catch the end of Happy Hour because of this we were able to have 4 drinks, 2 apps, and 2 main dishes for under $100 even after tip!
