Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

Mammoth French Toast

Mammoth French Toast

French toast, pain perdu, lost bread... what did you grow up calling it? My grandmother would call it lost bread which in french is pain perdu. It is called this because the original recipe was created when french bread was lost in the pantry and then found to make this delicious breakfast.

I put my own spin to the traditional recipe during our recent Anniversary Trip. I started by swapping the French Bread for Sour Dough. Tip- look for day old bread. This loaf was marked down to $2.50 because it was from the day before. Just like the "lost bread".

You will also need eggs, milk, cinnamon, cinnamon sugar, and vanilla extract.

You will cut the loaf into large, or should i say mammoth, slices. They will need to soak in your egg/milk mixture for 8-10 minutes on each side.

After soaking, heat a skillet with butter and cook your toast on each side until golden brown.

Serve with your favorite toppings. I LOVE powdered sugar and maple syrup with my french toast, but you can always add whipped cream, nuts, fruit, chocolate, etc.
