Hello & Happy (almost) 2020! This is a post that I have been meaning to write for a while and I thought- what better time than the new year! Are you one to make resolutions? I’d prefer to make short goals- such as run 50 miles in one month, finish my book club book, no alcohol during the week, work out at home 3 days this week and 2 the next, etc.

Regardless of what type of person you are: most people have some goal that is health & wellness related.

Most people do not know this, but in August I became a Certified Health Coach through the American Council on Exercise. I haven’t really done anything specific with this certification, but plan to do a little more here on the blog, Instagram, & also it is being incorporated into my “real job” as well! (If you are super new here I am also a NCCPA certified Physician Assistant.)

This is really my first health & wellness related post (besides healthy-ish recipes) and it’s all about working out at home.

First, let’s talk about at home workouts that I have enjoyed.

I am a big fan of group fitness classes and you can find these all over the place. If you’re looking for free options YOUTUBE is my go to! Search for what you are looking for and plenty of options come up: Tone it Up & Pop Sugar Fitness are my 2 favorites channels.

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I LOVE Obe Fitness. I have been a member since May 2018, shortly after they launched. Obe consists of Live Streaming classes in the morning, but also a library of On Demand and Express classes. It’s $27/ month or $200/year. That’s cheaper than most drop in rates! You can use the code LIZS30 for 30% off your first month. Click here to sign up.

If you are in Lafayette and looking for a free group fitness workout, check out the FitNiche Instagram. It is a free weekly workout at a public place in town. The day and location changes from week to week, but they announce everything on Instagram. I love this community!

Second, here are a few things that I have accumulated over the years of working out at home.

I have rounded up the things I have around my house to make my workouts successful. You can find these anywhere- Wal Mart, Academy, TJ Maxx. I went ahead and added affiliate links to Amazon in case you are an online shopper. These may not be the exact brands that I own, but they all have great reviews.

1. Hand weights- I have hand weights ranging from 2lbs-15lbs at my house.

2. Resistance Bands - perfect for adding a little extra effort to your workout

3. Ankle Weights- I strap these on for walks with Chewie

4. Weighted Gloves- I just got these for Christmas and did a cardio boxing workout on Obe Thursday with them.. talk about leveling up

5. Yoga Mat- I have a couple of these. My nicer one came from Target and is the Tone it Up brand. I like it because it is non slip, but I also have another I use for outdoor workouts. They aren’t just for yoga!

6. Yoga Mat Bag- when I do go to the gym, I sometimes ride my bike and just strap this bag on. It is great to store your yoga mat at home and good for travel.

Third, here are some of my favorite online & social sources for healthy tips and recipes!

Here are a few Instagram Accounts that I love following for healthy recipes: SkinnyTaste, Inspiralized, FitFoodieFinds. I love the My Fitness Pal blog for quick reads on trending health topics and also recipes. If you are local to Louisiana, I love the Eat Fit program. Look for their logo at local restaurants to find a healthy ordering option. They also have a beautiful cookbook for sale.

Alright y’all, I think that's a wrap for my first health and wellness post. I would love to know your thoughts in the comments below. Be on the lookout for more things like this to come in 2020.

Don’t forget to follow along over on Instagram for more food, travel, and health tips!

Happy New Year,

Liz
